Our Approach

Reggio Emilia Inspiration

Through our Reggio Emilia approach we put the children in the driver’s seat of their learning, by allowing them to be curious individuals with the power and potential to develop and learn from their environment and the relationships they build with others. The approach is based around fundamental principles that helps make our Nursery unique;

  • Children lead their learning through their interests
  • Children are encouraged to share and demonstrate through their ideas, thoughts and feelings.
  • An emergent curriculum – Teachers observe the children, talk to parents and base their planning upon the children’s interests.
  • Community involvement
  • Teachers are equal learners who guide and nurture children’s learning and growth
  • The environment as a ‘third teacher’
  • Educational documentation – Learning is made visable! The children can look back on their journey at Nursery

Our Community

As part of our Reggio Emilia Inspiration, we want to build and support the local community. We have successfully donated to charities such as Bluebell, Children in Need and North Bristol Foodbank.

We continue to work closely with our local Police Officers who enjoy coming in to visit the children, we have involved them for our Goldilocks and the Three Bears crime scene and our Road Safety events.

Learning through Play

At Moon River Nursery, we strive to achieve the highest standards in early years education. We believe that every child is an individual and learns best in their own, unique way. We follow the children’s interests through activities and projects that explore their questions and thinking about the world. Our rooms are calm, homely and inviting and are tailored to the needs of babies, toddlers and pre-school children. We think that strong language skills in children are vitally important, and help develop this, as well as a love of reading through Core Stories.

We build strong partnerships with parents and families, at the beginning by offering home visits. We support parents and carers throughout and involve them in our planning. We like to invite parents in the nursery as much as possible via parents’ evenings and special events throughout the year.(Unfortunately, due to COVID19 restrictions we are unable to invite families in the Nursery and we are offering Zoom calls rather than home visits and parents’ evening.)
